Having a small to medium sized dog in my life and loving my daily bike excursions, I was always torn between walking with my canine pal or riding off leaving her alone on the couch. My first solution, squeezing her into a front basket with a blanket for cushioning was a complete failure. My dog is super energetic and tended to move around constantly throwing off my balance and making riding fairly hazardous. I also realized that at 20 pounds, she really needed to be in a pet trailer to make things work.

After doing a bit of research online and at my local bike shop I finally took the plunge and purchased a DoggyRide Mini Trailer. This is a perfect trailer for a small dog, assembles easily and feels super solid. I live in a small apartment so it was great to find out how easily the Mini can be folded down and stored in a closet.

Before setting out it's a good idea to acclimate your dog to her new home on the road. With the wheels removed, the Mini's cabin doubles nicely as a comfy crate or tent so it can be set up indoors for a few days with a favorite toy and blanket inside. After exploring the new space, your dog will be more comfortable when you first set out.

Setting out for the first short trip, if you have a bike with an internal hub gear system, there is a special bracket that you will have to order separately in order to connect the trailer to your bike. Other than that, the trailer hooks up very easily and gives a very smooth and quiet ride for your pooch.
